My Story:
In January 2009 I began my weight loss journey. I was 217 pounds on a 5’1 frame, wearing a size 18-20. I could not believe that I let myself get to this point. Embarrassed doesn’t even begin to cover it! I was tired all the time and all I wanted to do was sleep! I was also beginning to show signs of diabetes. Bottom line- I did not want to suffer the same fate as my other family members. This is what sprung me into action. At 40 years old though, my hopes were pretty low. I had tried other diets and weight loss programs but had little success. I decided to give Atkins a try. I bought the book that ultimately turned my life around. My goal was to lose 75 pounds and to be able to shop in the misses section! During my first year, I lost a total of 70 pounds! But then, I hit a wall! I was so close and there was no way I was going to quit now! I decided to take off all the clothes hanging on my treadmill and use it the way it was supposed to be used. In one months time I had reached my goal. I enjoyed exercising so much that I just kept going. By 2011, I lost an additional 23 pounds bringing my total weight loss to 93 pounds! I am proud to say that as of July 2012, I have pretty much maintained my weight. I continue to exercise and eat healthy. At 44 years old, 126 pounds, and a size 6, I don’t think of Atkins as a diet…it is simply a healthier and happier way of life for me.
I come from a long line of diabetics and I was well on my way to following in their footsteps. My doctor urged me to lose weight or suffer the same fate. I am happy to say that I have never been healthier!I come from a long line of diabetics and I was well on my way to following in their footsteps.
